Danny Kaye King of Jesters (Book): Koenig, David: Packed with never-before-published anecdotes and photos, "Danny Kaye: King of Jesters" takes the first-ever behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Kaye's film, TV, radio and stage work, and at the "secret life" of the incredible performer behind them. The original "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" is not the best executed story of all time, getting a little jumbled in all it's cleverness, but it sure holds your attention and makes you laugh a lot%.

Contemporary commentators often ascribed much of entertainer Danny Kaye’s success to his having a “Fine” head on his shoulders. Publicly, his wife Sylvia Fine’s coruscating lyrics supported Danny’s zaniness in such films as Up in Arms (), Wonder Man (), The Kid from Brooklyn (), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (), The Inspector General (), and On the Riviera (). Jul 15,  · The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is highly entertaining escapism and - i n spite of its inconsistencies - showcases Danny Kaye at his chaotic best. The Technicolor is stunning and the film boasts a great cast of supporting players including Boris Karloff, Thurston Hall, Florence Bates, Gordon Jones, Reginald Denny, and Konstantin Shayne. As is well documented in my book Danny Kaye: King of Jesters, James Thurber hated the Danny’s filmed version of his short story “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” He hated the musical and specialty numbers, the broad comedy, the melodrama, the Goldwyn Girls, everything—except the dream sequences.

For me, one of the highlights of the film is the fantasy-within-a-fantasy performance of Symphony For an Unstrung Tongue (The Little Fiddle) – a hilariously funny Danny Kaye sketch, which can be viewed via YouTube.
